In what is shaping up to be an annual friendly trash talk between bloggers, my buddy JJT glorifies the 54th Annual Beanpot matchup between BU and BC. His puppies won. How cute.
Over at the real league however, my mighty Badgers took down Ohio State on Saturday with a 4-2 victory. Compared to the Beanpot, which was attended by a mere 17,565 (it would have been 17,566 had JJT been able to beat the storm and get to Boston), The Frozen Tundra was HUGE with 40,890 fans in attendance.
The contest, which also served as the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game, drew the fourth-largest crowd ever for a hockey game and the second-largest crowd for a college hockey game.
Please. The Frozen Tundra Classic is but a pale imitation of what has always been a great hockey tournament--the Beanpot. Just because you midwesterners feel left out of the loop, you had to go make sure you have a hockey game--not a tournament, mind you--outdoors. Whoop-dee-friggin'-do.
By the way, I did not see any Badger players making SportsCenters Top 10 Plays last Tuesday. Oh, that's right, I forgot. My Terriers played in the Beanpot. I should also remind you that the Beanpot was sold out.
And in another moment of trash talk, both head coaches of last nights teams--BU's Jack Parker and BC's Jerry York--both have well over 700 wins between them.
Well our coach Mike Eaves is just a tad younger than those old goats, and lest I remind you: We have 5 NCAA titles in hand. You need one more just to TIE big guy.
Time for me to be so wrong. BU has made a total of 9 appearances in the NCAA Championship--considering that the championship was not played until 1948 (and the team began in 1917). Wisconsin has appeared in the championship 7 times, with one year being vacated due to NCAA rules infractions.
Furthermore, BU is 3-0 against your stinkin' Badgers in NCAA play. The last time your team won a National Championsip was 1990. I have the distinction of witnessing one when I was at BU--and the dubious honor of seeing a bad loss to Lake Superior St. my freshman year.
Sorry, I have seen a National Championship in my lifetime, and as far as I am concerned Hockey East is the ACC of collegiate hockey.

Badgers....we don't need no stinkin' Badgers! :-P
