Giant lobster gets reprieve
I saw this article , and immediately tossed an email off to my brother who works across the street from Wholey's market in the Strip District of Pittsburgh, to see if he had an opportunity to see this leviathan in person. Being the geek that he is, I got this email back - with photos:

I was there last Friday when he came in! They announced it over the store PA. The were saying he was 30 to 32 pounds depending on who you talked to in the store. I think they would have sold it if someone had wanted to pay $450. I went back Monday and took some pictures. There was no normal-sized lobster in the tank until I asked the manager to put one in for my picture. He was on the local news over the weekend.

What they don't mention is that eating "Bubba" would be a lot like eating twenty pounds of racquetballs; there's a reason why you don't see many lobsters even as big as five pounds for sale.

The store owner should keep him around as a marketing gimmick. Look at all the press he's gotten already!

...not only would he be rubbery, but his carapace is probably about 1/4" thick... good luck getting through that with a little mallet...
