Uhhh, this is hardly news, but scary nonetheless. A pandemic is not an "if", it's a "when". They occur naturally, and I suspect no amount of planning or medical advancement can avoid it.
The WHO, which meets in Luxembourg on Wednesday with 52 countries from the European region, estimates that up to 8m people could be killed and 30m could be hospitalised by a pandemic.
The majority of these deaths will likely occur in Asia according to experts in infectious disease at the WHO, but with air travel and other rapid means of travel - it could spread everywhere, anytime.
