Canadians mostly say "pop" as a rule (it's one of those spot-the-differences-between-us-and-them things). Does that mean we're cool as a nation?
It's soda, and I am still cool!
The map looks about right. Soda on the east coast and pop in the midwest.
Well, duh!!! Of course it's pop! What is up with those multi-syllabic East Coasters? Even Einstein himself said to keep it as simple as possible. ;)

doggerel: I have always thought that Canuks are cool! DD: Indeed tfg: And you would be which in this case? Jennetic: That's my 'Burgh girl! They don't call it the Gateway to the Midwest for nuttin. I have to admit, after living on the East Coast (Philly and Balto) these last 15 years, I have succumbed to the use of 'soda'. But it was 'pop' for sure, growing up and in college out in Wisconsin!
I was always weirded out by people calling it "tonic" in New England...
